Green River Soda
Introduced in 1919, Green River has a long history as a Chicago soda. It is especially beloved on the South Side, and it takes its place in the limelight every St. Patrick’s Day when the city dyes the Chicago River green. Naturally, Green River is the perfect soda for the occasion. When it got tied in with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Green River cemented its place in the market with Chicago’s large Irish American population. By the end of prohibition Green River was outsold only by Coca-Cola in the Midwest. In 2021, Sprecher Brewery acquired Green River and today it continues to be celebrated throughout the Midwest, especially on St. Patrick’s Day.
Green River Soda is available at Sprecher Brewery, 701 W. Glendale Ave, Glendale, Wis., and can be ordered online. It can be found in stores including Woodman’s Market, Jewel-Osco, Binny’s Beverage Depot, Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets, Tony’s Fresh Market, Pete’s Fresh Market, Meijer, Mariano’s and more locations throughout the Midwest and select national markets.

Sprecher is a proud partner with Bavarian-inspired Milwaukee Pretzel Company. We offer a selection of their products in our taproom, including our beer mustard in their gift packages. Now when you grab a pint (or two) this St. Patrick’s Day, enjoy a 1lb Milwaukee Pretzel Company shamrock soft pretzel along with it. All pretzels are shipped fresh and come in a freezer-safe bag for easy storage until St. Patrick’s Day. Pack includes one 1lb shamrock soft pretzel, two nacho cheese cups, one pack of gold chocolate coins and salt. Green River Flavored Eli’s Cheesecake
Eli’s Cheesecake is teaming up with another Chicago icon, Green River Soda, to create a special cheesecake for St. Patrick’s Day. Eli’s Green River Cheesecake is a rich and creamy neon lime cheesecake, topped with lime gelee, baked on Eli’s signature all butter shortbread cookie crust and made with real Green River flavoring. After many years of serving Green River at Eli’s Cheesecake’s annual reception for Chicago’s St Patrick’s Day Queen and her court, the two Chicago brands joined forces. In 2020, Eli’s Cheesecake debuted their new St. Patrick’s themed cheesecake made with Green River.
