Learn About Grape Soda

Did they stop making grape soda?

No. While some popular grape sodas have been discontinued, Sprecher has never stopped making delicious fire-brewed grape soda!

Some big-name "grape" soda brands never started making real grape soda in the first place. If you read ingredient lists, you'll see that Sprecher soda is made with real grape juice. Many big-name grape sodas contain no grapes at all!

Sprecher grape soda is fire-brewed in small batches with real grapes and pure honey, and we have no plans to stop making our real grape soda anytime soon.

Why does grape soda taste so good?

Sprecher grape soda tastes good because it is fire-brewed in small batches with real grape juice and pure honey.

Other "grape" sodas use petroleum-derived chemical flavorings and high-fructose corn syrup to taste good, but if you try Sprecher, you'll realize that those brands simply don't compare.

Is grape soda a southern thing?

The first grape soda brand that achieved commercial success was called Grapico, and it was invented in New Orleans by two brothers.

Earlier grape soda brands and recipes were not very successful because grapes were expensive. Grapico was made with little to no grape juice and loads of cheap artificial grape flavoring, and because it was so affordable, it became very successful in the south. Soon competing companies like NuGrape (from Atlanta, GA) and Grapette (from Camden, AR) made their own grape sodas and the flavor took the south by storm.

So, grape soda is a southern thing because affordable grape soda was invented in the south!

We at Sprecher think grapes make a good grape soda, which is why we use real grape juice in our soda. It may be a break from southern tradition, but we think everyone north and south deserves a grape soda made with real ingredients.
